Q.
Why can we not receive broadband using our telephone line?
A. Although the local exchange (Huntingdon)
has been broadband enabled the maximum line length for the
service is 5.5Km. Most of the lines in this area are at least
8Km.
Q.
How quickly can you install the service?
A. Normally within 14 days.
Q.
Why is the installation £199?
A. The wireless equipment required costs around £150,
it then has to be professionally installed by engineers.
Q.
Is there a minimum contract length?
A. If you pay monthly you can cancel at any
time. If you pay annually this is not refundable so it is
for the remainder of the year.
Q.
What connection speed can I expect?
A. The connection is a shared 2Mb link. You
will have a guaranteed minimum bandwidth allocated to you
so you will always have internet access.
Q.
What download rate can I expect?
A. Download rates are typically 30-40KB/sec
compared to 4-5KB/sec on a dial up connection.
Q. Is the connection secure?
A. The link from your home to our base station is
securely encrypted at 128 bits.
Q.
Can I use this service for internet gaming.
A. As we currently connect to the internet
via satellite there are high ping rates making it unacceptable
for gaming. Our service is optimized for internet browsing
and downloading files.
Q.
Do you provide an e-mail service?
A. We are now providing all broadband customers
with free e-mail accounts.
Q.
What equipment do I need?
A. We will provide and install the necessary
wireless equipment. You will need an external unit, about
the size of a large tissue box. The cable will be run into
the room with your computer and must be within 1m of a power
socket. This will all be professionally installed by a local
aerial company.
Q.
If I were to move to another part of the country would I
be able to use the same equipment or would I have to have
new equipment installed?
A. The equipment is wi-fi standard so it
will work anywhere in the world, provided that there is
a wireless broadband network in place. Failing that you
will still be able to use the wireless access point for
internal home use.
